Second-homesick

NL

Today Hajni went again to Hungary. Not to visit the house, but to visit a wedding in Karcag. I am sorry I cannot come. I miss Hungary very much. That is the only problem with sucha nice girlfriend and sucha nice house...

Anita and Jimena

Now, after all those years, it is possible for us to be hosts in Hungary. Especially for Hajni it is wonderful to invite people in a place of our own. The first to enjoy this were Hajni’s sister Anita and her daughter Jimena. They live in Spain, but spend every summer some weeks in Hungary.
They had a lot of fun! Jimena really enjoyed the bath we bought for the terrace. And in the mean time, they helped us by finishing some things in and around the house.

The house is finished

Well, we finally got rid of the contractor… We paid him the last milion Forrint and kicked him out. He was angree a few days before, because he didn’t get the money. Wierd, because the work was not finished either…

We managed to have the plumbing finished, the bathroom in the Barn, the kitchen and the electricity everywhere before the family Bantje came to visit. The stairs were finished when we arrived 2 weeks before! So we don’t need anybody anymore. What a releaf!

Okay, the electrician has to close the hole in the front wall (at the front house). And we had some new work for the carpenter (making some window covers).

Hajnis uncle Miki helps us to whiten the walls. He does a fantastic job, even in the heat of last weekend (42 degrees). Just look at the pictures to see his great work!

They work when you watch them…

Hi everybody,

Our 10-day visit is already over… and I must admit to feel ‘home sick’ to Kisbajom. It was great. Hajni’s birthday was a very nice party, although not everything has been finished.

Much work has been done in the last 10 days. We kicked the contractors *ss and his worker crowd showed up. They worked with 8 people at the same time. We realy learned now that we should not work with people anymore on a distance. People like it better if we guide them; we like it better if we guide them; workers work faster when we are around; and it is nice to give them a compliment if they finished something. It is just better for everybody.

Look in the photo albums for all the progress that has been made in March. The contractor is almost finished; so we can continue without the former worries. From this summer we (or any other!) will only work on the house when one of us is there.

My parents are going Saturday to Kisbajom. Let’s see what they think of all the results…

Nothing done for two months!

Nothing done since Govert was in Kisbajom… The contractor desided to stop working from the afternoon my dad left Kisbajom in January.

I really need to say, I start to dislike the contractor. He doesn’t take the house very serious. He does sh*t work and just waits until we tell him where he made mistakes. He sais he is keen on his reputation, but I think his reputation is not very good anyway.

More soon, when Hajni and me go to Kisbajom for the birthday of her dad (60) and herself (30)!

Snow does not slow down the builders

Govert has returned last Friday from a short week in Kisbajom. He checked the contractor, spoke with responsible builders on the site and made pictures.

It goes well. Ofcourse things has to beimprovised, but most goes well. The windows are finally in, inside it is not freezing anymore. The floors are getting finished. The workers even started to put down the antique bricks on the floor. As you can see we will have state of the art floor heating and sanitairy equipment.

In March most will be finished. We will start on the finishing touches. Probably tiles, paint, paneling, stairs(!) and plastering. Hajni invited everybody for a first test gathering on her 30th birthday. This means making some beds as well!

More about the building and/or Hajni’s birthday will follow soon…

It will be finished in 2007…

I hope it will anyway. After we said we will not come to Kisbajom (and pay of course) around Xmas the contractor stopt building for a while. Govert will go the 22nd of January to check what has been finished and what will be paid. We expect the work on the studio will be finished by then.

The work on the barn will maybe take some more time. It turned out the big doors which were made, were not the correct size. Thiscame out of miscommunication between the carpenter and the contractor. Both told us to solve it, but when? It’s often freezing now in Hungary so the developments will go slow.

Anyway; the plumber is, dispite everything, still making progress. The water was frozen once, but it does not seems to be a big problem. The floor heating is getting installed now, but connecting to the gas heater will take some more time. In Hungary installing gas stuff is subject to special rules and can only be done by specialists. The gas man is quite an amature. He improvises all the time without us knowing his choices. Now he has installed some tubes at the wrong place and he will have to do it again next week.

Well, we will keep you posted. Just return to this blog at the end of January. For now; all best wishes for 2007 and maybe we will meet in Kisbajom!
